Liquefied Petroleum Gas- the new age fuel for heavy transportation

In the world of new advancements and the rapid changes in the environment, the need of the hour is about saving the surroundings by changing the dynamics of the usage of the fuels in our day to day life. With the amount of pollution being emitted by the conventional fuels the urge to have new enriched and advance fuels has been shot up. To this hazardous problem the Liquefied Natural Gas has come up as a great solution.

In the present time; around more than 20 million vehicles in the world running on natural gas.
This gas, which is called CNG (Compressed Natural Gas), is the same as the gas used to heat our houses. Natural gas is a resource that is very widely available in the world and is less polluting than petrol or diesel. Therefore, it is quite a climate-friendly fuel for driving, but the problem lies mainly in the extraction method.

But as an advancement a new fuel has come into the existence i.e. liquefied natural gas (LNG). It is a natural gas that has been cooled down to liquid form for ease and safety of non-pressurized storage or transport. It takes up about 1/600th the volume of natural gas in the gaseous state which makes it more competent to be used as a fuel It is odorless, colorless, non-toxic and non-corrosive.

Since this fuel came into existence it has been used by many major countries like China, USA, Europe and Australia etc. as a fuel for the heavy load vehicles. Even Australia is planning to develop a dedicated highway for LNG vehicles.  Even India has started making small advancements by transporting LNG by LNG powered road tankers in Kerala state.

It can be considered that LNG could be the new age fuel for the heavy road vehicles. It is upto us how potentially and efficiently it is being used.

Gas Extraction from sea :

There are few known ways for subsea processing technologies to extract gas such as subsea trees, risers and umbilicals. Subsea processing has helped to revolutionize offshore developments worldwide.

With production equipment located on the seafloor rather than on a fixed or floating platform, subsea processing provides a less expensive solution for myriad offshore environments. Originally conceived as a way to overcome the challenges of extremely deepwater situations, subsea processing has become a viable solution for fields located in harsh conditions where processing equipment on the water’s surface might be at risk. Additionally, subsea processing is an emergent application to increase production from mature or marginal fields.
