Osmania Medical College gets a new look, Health Minister unveils new initiatives

Hyderabad, September 9th, 2019 : The students, Alumni and Management, of Osmania Medical College, took on the initiative to spruce up and beautify the OMC campus and make its ambience on par with the best medical colleges. As part of it, Chief Guest Eatala Rajender garu, Hon’ble Minister for Health, Govt. of Telangana; unveiled two attractive landmarks in the campus, the “Doctor’s sculpture” & “Outstanding OSMECOS ‘77 Square” on Monday at Osmania Medical College campus, Koti. Present on the occasion were Guests of Honour Dr Ramesh Reddy, Director of Medical Education, Telangana; Dr P. Shashikala Reddy, Prinicpal, Osmania Medical College; Dr Ravinder, Chairman, OMC Alumnus Trust; Dr Tapadia, President, OMC Alumnus Association; Dr Vijay Anand Reddy, Alumni member & Director, Apollo Cancer Institute; Dr Krishna Reddy, Secretary, Alumni Trust; Dr. Lakshman Rao, Vice Principal; several prominent alumni and students.

Since Prinicipal Dr Shashikala Reddy, took over the reins of the Osmania Medical College, she was instrumental in initiating several new developments in the academics and over all image building of this prestigious institution.

Dr Vijay Anand Reddy joined hands with Dr Sashikala, in the mission and they together transformed the college into a unbelievable beautiful campus. Today the Campus can give many a private colleges a run for their money. Dr Vijayanand Reddy is the brainchild behind the entire project, they both spent virtually every weekend for the last one year at OMC, while personally supervising the ongoing works and bringing them to this shape. Without the help of an architect or an engineer, Dr Vijayanand Reddy single handedly designed the campus, supervised and executed.

Eatala Rajender garu, said, Osmania Medical College has name and fame across Telanagana, this college is the Alma Matter of many of the eminent doctors in India and abroad. A patient gains tremendous confidence just by seeing ‘OS’ in the bracket along with MBBS qualification of the Doctor. I agree the college building is in a dilapidated state, since it is the heart of medical education in the state, the government will look into all the deficiencies and problems of the college and will address them shortly and try and bring back the glory in the bygone era it had. Despite the medical advances, newer viral fevers and diseases are constant plaguing the common man, as students of this renowned college you should commit yourself and excel as doctors and provide succor to these patients.

Speaking on the occasion Dr Shashikala Reddy said, I am grateful to Health Minister Eatala Rajender garu, for having come to the campus, its more than a decade since a health minister has been to our campus and we are extremely fortunate to have you. The past year has been filled with momentous challenge and excitement and has finally culminated into this memorable day, wherein we are unveiling the “Doctor’s sculpture” & “Outstanding OSMECOS ‘77 Square.” But dream is much more, this is just the beginning, my actual goal is to make this institute stand among the first five ranks in the country, which needs total commitment of the faculty and the students and encouragement and support of the Government and the DME. Let us all work towards fulfilling our dream.

Addressing the gathering Dr Vijay Anand Reddy said, I have two requests to the Minister, one is to provide furniture for the academic building which is lying unutilized for the last four years and permit laying of the roads within the campus. My request to the students is to not to litter the campus and use the dustbins placed across the campus and also to park their vehicles in an orderly manner for everyone’s benefit.
