India's Active Covid Cases Drop Below 8 Lakh For 1st Time In 1.5 Months

With a spike of 62,212 new cases and 837 deaths in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 count reached 74,32,681 on Saturday according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. According to the Union Health Ministry, the active cases have dropped below the 8 lakh mark for the first time in one-and-a-half months. As per the Ministry, the COVID-19 count includes 7,95,087 active cases and 65,24,596 cured/discharged/migrated cases. With 837 deaths in the last 24 hours, the total death count due to the disease has reached 1,12,998. “This significant achievement is the outcome of Centre-led targeted strategies leading to a high number of recoveries and steadily falling number of fatalities,” the Ministry said.

Cinema Halls To Open Today In Several States; 50% Occupancy, Seat Markers

Cinema halls in several parts of the country will reopen today after seven months in the shadow of the pandemic. Theatres and multiplexes, closed since March because of the coronavirus crisis, recently allowed to resume operations as per guidelines issued under Unlock 5. Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka some of the states where cinema halls will reopen. Theatres and multiplexes will remain closed in states like Maharashtra, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Chhattisgarh. Cinema halls in the northeastern states will not open on open today as the states have not issued any guidelines. Fifty per cent occupancy, staggered show timings, social distancing, thermal screening, adequate protection gear for the staff, and compulsorily providing phone numbers for “contact tracing” are some of the changes movie-goers will see. Andhra Pradesh is bracing for more heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours – IMD Hyderabad has warned of thunderstorms along coastal regions in the state – after a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal crossed the coast near Kakinada on Tuesday, causing widespread flooding and damage across both the state and Telangana, and leaving at least six people dead. The Chief Secretary to Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy wrote to senior district and police officials on Tuesday, urging them to be on “high alert”. Massive flooding and waterlogging are likely to occur in low-lying areas. India Crosses "Landmark Milestone" With 60 Lakh Recoveries

India crossed a “landmark milestone”, the government said on Sunday as the country reported 60 lakh recoveries from the novel coronavirus, which has affected more than 70 lakh people in the country, taking it closer to overtaking the United States which currently has over 76 lakh cases. With 74,383 new infections, India’s Covid tally now stands at 70,53,806, the data released by the Health Ministry on Sunday showed. India reported 918 deaths linked to the virus on Sunday, taking the total number of fatalities to 1,08,334. For the third day in a row the active cases of COVID-19 remained below nine lakh.

COVID-19 Recoveries Exceeds Active Cases By Over 48 Lakh: Health Ministry

The number of people recovered from COVID-19 has exceeded those with active infection by more than 48 lakh as the recovery rate surpassed 85 per cent today, the Union Health Ministry said. Nearly 57.50 lakh people have recovered so far, which is 6.32 times the active cases, it said, adding the sustained high levels of recoveries have widened the gap between active and recovered cases. “The national recovery rate has jumped past 85 per cent today with the continuous streak of high number of recovered cases being reported in the past few weeks. The recovered cases have exceeded the new confirmed again during the past 24 hours,” the ministry said in a statement. As many as 82,203 recoveries have been registered in the last 24 hours and the total recovered cases have exceeded the active cases by more than 48 lakh, it said. India’s COVID-19 caseload zoomed past 58 lakh, while over 47 lakh people have recuperated from the disease, pushing the national recovery rate to 81.74 per cent, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday. The total coronavirus cases mounted to 58,18,570 with 86,052 infections being reported in a day. The death toll climbed to 92,290 with 1,141 people succumbing to the disease in a span of 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am showed. The total recoveries have surged to 47,56,164. India’s COVID-19 caseload raced past 57 lakh, while over 46 lakh people have recovered from the disease pushing the national recovery rate to 81.55 per cent, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday. The total coronavirus cases mounted to 57,32,518 with 86,508 people testing positive in a day while the death toll climbed to 91,149 with 1,129 people succumbing to the disease in a span of 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am showed. India has reported the highest rate of coronavirus recoveries in the world, which has crossed the 80 per cent-mark, said Union Health Ministry today. Addressing the Health Ministry press briefing on the COVID-19 situation, Rajesh Bhushan, Secretary, Union Health Ministry said, “We get swayed by the narrative that India has over 50 lakh cases, but we forget that nearly 45 lakh people have already recovered. India has the highest recoveries, 44.9 lakh in the world. India contributes 17.7 per cent share in the total COVID-19 cases (globally). However, in terms of recovered cases, India shares 19.5 per cent of the total recovered cases (globally).” Mr Bhushan further stated that India’s recovery rate is over 80 per cent. Record 1.01 Lakh One-Day Recoveries As Covid Cases Cross 55-Lakh Mark

India has achieved record recoveries of 1,01,468 COVID-19 patients in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry data shows. Its coronavirus tally crossed the 55-lakh mark with a spike of 75,083 cases and 1,053 deaths. This is the fourth day when the number of daily recoveries is higher than the daily cases. With almost 45 lakh people (44,97,868) having beaten COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic, the overall recovery rate has increased to 80.86 per cent. India’s recovery rate of COVID-19 cases has crossed the 80 per cent mark with over 90,000 recoveries recorded for the third consecutive day, the Union Health Ministry said on Monday. In a statement, the ministry said 93,356 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours. “India has crossed the significant landmark of more than 80 per cent national recovery rate. On a continuous stretch of high recoveries, India has also reported more than 90,000 recoveries for the third day in succession,” the ministry said in the statement. Twelve states and UTs have registered recovery rate of more than the national average and 79 per cent of the new recovered cases are from 10 states and UTs. “The total recovered cases are close to 44 lakh (43,96,399) today. India tops the global figure of total recoveries. It accounts for more than 19 per cent of the world total,” it said.
