Sankara Eye Hospital treats a 24 yr old suffering from an extremely rare eye tumour

24-year-old Ganesh (name changed), a marketing executive, hailing from Tamil Nadu, spent months together running from pillar to post looking for treatment for a mass lesion that he had developed in his left eye, but in vain. Apollo Doctors perform Living Donor Liver Transplant and CABG, in one sitting spanning over 14 hours!

Apollo Hospital, Jubilee Hills, has accomplished a rare and complex feat of performing combined procedures of Living Donor Liver Transplantation and Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) operation, on a patient in a single sitting. The surgery spanning over fourteen hours, involved the expertise of multi-speciality teams including Cardiac, Oncology and Liver transplant. The 67-year-old male patient from Hyderabad, Mr Siva Prasad Rao, was suffering from Liver Cirrhosis and Liver cancer. During evaluation for the liver transplant, he was found to have significant coronary artery disease with critical blocks in the blood vessels to the heart. The heart disease was found to be significant enough to preclude performing a liver transplant. Coronary stenting was not an option as, after stenting, the liver transplant could not be carried out for 8-12 weeks, and waiting was not an option as the patient’s liver cancer could spread during the waiting time. Mumbai , 7 th  November 2019: Family of a 72-year-old man from Mumbai saved a precious life by consenting to donate his liver at Nanavati Super Speciality Hospital (NSSH) on Wednesday. The family’s decision also marked the 72 nd  cadaveric donation of Mumbai. The donor—with a history of stroke ten years ago, was rushed to the hospital on November 4 in an unconscious state. After two days of treatment and an array of diagnostic tests, the senior citizen was declared brain-dead on November 6, due to an irreversible damage to the brain caused by intracranial bleeding. “As soon as the doctors and medical social workers counselled us about his brain death, we consented to donate his organs. Our loss is unimaginable but my father would’ve wanted to save someone else’s life in his death,” said the donor’s son.
