India Reports World's Highest Rate Of Coronavirus Recoveries: Union Health Ministry

India has reported the highest rate of coronavirus recoveries in the world, which has crossed the 80 per cent-mark, said Union Health Ministry today. Addressing the Health Ministry press briefing on the COVID-19 situation, Rajesh Bhushan, Secretary, Union Health Ministry said, “We get swayed by the narrative that India has over 50 lakh cases, but we forget that nearly 45 lakh people have already recovered. India has the highest recoveries, 44.9 lakh in the world. India contributes 17.7 per cent share in the total COVID-19 cases (globally). However, in terms of recovered cases, India shares 19.5 per cent of the total recovered cases (globally).” Mr Bhushan further stated that India’s recovery rate is over 80 per cent. Record 1.01 Lakh One-Day Recoveries As Covid Cases Cross 55-Lakh Mark

India has achieved record recoveries of 1,01,468 COVID-19 patients in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry data shows. Its coronavirus tally crossed the 55-lakh mark with a spike of 75,083 cases and 1,053 deaths. This is the fourth day when the number of daily recoveries is higher than the daily cases. With almost 45 lakh people (44,97,868) having beaten COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic, the overall recovery rate has increased to 80.86 per cent. The active cases in the 24-hour period reduced to 9,75,861, these account for 17.54 per cent of all cases. India has, so far, recorded 55, 62,664 COVID-19 cases, the Health Ministry data shows. A total of 88,935 people have lost their lives to COVID-19 till now. The country’s fatality rate stands at 1.59 per cent. 86,961 new COVID-19 cases in India, tally reaches 54,87,580

India’s COVID-19 tally reached 54.88 lakh with 86,961 people being infected in the past 24 hours, while 43,96,399 people have recuperated so far pushing the national recovery rate to 80.12 per cent on Sunday, according to the Union Health Ministry data. The total coronavirus cases mounted to 54,87,580, while the death toll climbed to 87,882 with the infection claiming 1,130 lives in a span of 24 hours in the country, the data updated at 8 am showed. The COVID-19 case fatality rate due to coronavirus has further declined to 1.6 per cent. There are 10,03,299 active cases in the country as of now, which comprises 18.28 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a cumulative total of 6,43,92,594 samples have been tested up to September 20, with 7,31,534 samples being tested on Monday.

The pandemic claimed 1,054 lives in the last 24 hours taking India's total death count past the 80,000 mark. The country now has 9.90 lakh active cases and a total 38.59 lakh patients in the country have recovered from COVID-19. Maharashtra remains the worst affected state by the pandemic, followed by Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh. Worldwide, almost 3 crore people have been infected by Sars-CoV-2, and more than 9.23 lakh people have lost their lives to the pandemic since it surfaced in China late last year.

Indoco Remedies gets USFDA nod for blood thinning drug

Drug firm Indoco Remedies on Monday said it has received approval from the US health regulator for blood thinning drug Apixaban tablets. The approved product is therapeutically equivalent to the reference listed drug Eliquis of Bristol-Myers Squibb. In a regulatory filing, Indoco Remedies said it has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for its abbreviated new drug application (ANDA) for Apixaban tablets in the strengths of 2.5 mg and 5 mg. Apixaban is an anticoagulant, or blood thinner. It is used for patients with health problems caused by a blood clot. Quoting IMS June 2020 moving annual total data, Indoco Remedies said the US market size of Apixaban tablets is USD 11,037 million. Shares of Indoco Remedies were trading 3.50 per cent higher at Rs 228.95 apiece on BSE.

Adar Poonawalla's Serum Institute Told To Pause Vaccine Trial Recruitment

New recruitment for the Phase 2 and Phase 3 trials of the Oxford University's Covishield vaccine being manufactured in India by the Serum Institute of India, along with pharma major AstraZeneca, has to be suspended till further orders, country's drug controller DCGI has said. The Drugs Controller General Of India (DCGI) has also directed the Serum Institute of India (SII) to increase the safety monitoring of the subjects who have already been vaccinated as part of the trial and submit the plan and report. On Thursday, the Serum Institute, headed by Adar Poonawalla, said it would pause Phase 3 trials that were to begin in India next week after AstraZeneca stopped vaccine trials across four nations as a precautionary measure. The pausing of trials by the pharma giant was linked to a UK volunteer showing potentially adverse symptoms. “We are reviewing the situation and pausing India trials till AstraZeneca restarts the trials,” read a statement from the Serum Institute, which was

Delhi LG directs officers to start testing on demand

Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal on Wednesday directed officers to augment the city's testing capacity by taking a few steps, including 'testing on demand', testing at the national capital's border points and at major construction sites to check the spread of COVID-19. Sources said that during a meeting of Delhi Disaster Management Authority, the lieutenant governor asked officers to prepare detailed SOPs to introduce such testing facilities in the city. They said that a helpline number will soon be launched, where a person, who has COVID-19 symptoms, can book testing and thereafter, can avail the facility at his or her doorstep. “In first phase, senior citizens, women and children are likely to avail 'testing on demand' facility. Another option is that people can also book testing at nearby centres by making a call at the helpline number,” a source told PTI. Children's risk of needing hospital treatment for coronavirus is “tiny” and critical care “even tinier”, they say. However, black children, those who are obese and very young babies have a slightly higher risk. The BMJ study looked at 651 children with coronavirus in hospitals in England, Wales and Scotland. It covers two-thirds of all children's admissions in the UK due to Covid-19 between January and July and confirms what is already known about the minimal effects of the virus on children. A “strikingly low” 1% of these 651 children and young people – six in total – had died in hospital with Covid-19 compared with 27% across all other age groups, the study found.
