Sasikala succeeds Jayalalithaa as AIADMK chief
Chennai: The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general council on Thursday adopted a resolution to work under the leadership of V.K. Sasikala—a close aide and confidante of late chief minister J. Jayalalithaa.
Jayalalithaa had held the post of the general secretary of the AIADMK since 1989.
The party’s senior functionaries have been urging Sasikala or Chinnamma (mother’s little sister as called by her supporters) to take over the top post after the demise of the Jayalalithaa.
Jayalalithaa passed away on 5 December and O. Panneerselvam was handed the chief minister’s post after her death.
Chief minister O. Panneerselvam, deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha and leader of AIADMK’s parliamentary party, M Thambidurai, all state ministers and other AIADMK members were present at the meeting held at Vanagaram, on the suburbs of Chennai.
