In the complaint, an official attached to the chief minister's office (CMO) stated: "A few fake Twitter accounts have been opened in the CM's name and confusing messages are being posted. Sometime ago a fake Twitter handle "@CmofKarnatka" was opened and misleading tweets were posted. This, subsequently, was deactivated and a new fake account "@CMoKarnataka" was created recently." The official urged the cryber crime cell to track down the creators of fake Twitter handles and take appropriate action against those posting inappropriate messages.
According to a source in the CMO, the official handle of CM Siddaramaiah is "@CMofKarnataka" and all the official information was being disseminated from here. "However, some people have created fake Twitter accounts with ulterior motives, they want to create confusion among tweeple. We want the cybercrime sleuths to launch a crackdown on such fake accounts." The source said the complaint comes in the backdrop of the CMO's plan to increase visibility in the digital platform in the run-up to the assembly polls.
The CID sleuths, meanwhile, stated that they will identify fake accounts and also alert Twitter India about such handles.
